Verona Sorensen graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal, specializing in performing arts. She also completed specialized training in painting and encaustic.
Using weathered doors and walls as a departure point, Sorensen creates textural surfaces of layered oil, encaustic (wax) and sand. She then scrapes away areas of the painting to reveal hidden surfaces, and, what she calls “memories or glimpses of thoughts”; stemming from the subconscious. Her use of letters and numbers allude to fragments of identity set adrift, possibly hinting at a story or language the viewer may also recognize and relate to.
Verona Sorensen's paintings are found in private collections in Canada, Italy and Mexico.
