Montreal-based artist Jeanie Riddle works with ideas from the everyday in a dramatic and bold way. Her practice is rooted in the techniques and ideals of modernist painting, and is fixated on economy and exhausting potential in simple forms. One element or change of color, scale, size, or finesse makes a complete difference to the whole. She has a prolific installation and painting practice, and has shown widely and across Canada.
Jeanie Riddle holds an MFA from Concordia University (2005). Trained in painting, Riddle has been developing a sculptural installation practice rooted in the techniques and ideals of modernist painting since 2002. Her installation work has been presented across Canada. Riddle was the recipient of a full fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center in May 2005 and a finalist of the 2008 Royal Bank of Canada’s Canadian Painting competition. When not working in her studio, Riddle works as the Director of Parisian Laundry.
